Most people I know love fresh fruit. I see them devouring apples, pears, oranges and grapes all of the time. I am not a huge fan of fresh fruit. I will eat an apple, but it better be extremely fresh and crispy with the perfect balance of sweet and tart. If not....it goes in the garbage. I can't eat it.
I will eat an occasional banana, and grapes are okay. I love cantaloupe, if it's juicy and sweet. There is nothing worse than buying expensive, organic fruit...only to take one bite and have it taste gross.
Like most healthy eating plans, my new food plan requires me to eat a few servings of fruit. every day. I have found an easy way to get some those servings and that is by making Smoothies!
I found two recipes in my new book, "Building Bone Vitality" so I thought I would share them with you. They are both very, very good.
Berry Smoothie
Serves 2
2 cups of frozen berries
1 to 2 tablespoons of maple syrup
2 tablespoons of calcium-fortified orange juice
1/2 to 1 cup of water or soy milk as needed (I use vanilla soy milk)
Place it all in a blender and blend until smooth, adding water or soy milk as needed to achieve the desired thickness. Serve immediately.
Tropical Smoothie
Serves 2
1 cup of frozen banana chunks
1 cup pineapple pieces
1/2 cup unsweetened apple juice, or more if desired
Place everything in the blender and blend until smooth. For a thinner smoothie, add more juice. Serve immediately.
OH YUM!!!

I love smoothies and these sound delicious. Sometimes I add a scoop of protein powder and it boosts my strength and energy level. I bet you don't need that :)
sounds yummy
This looks delicious. My son loves smoothies so I'll have to make note of him when he's home for a visit. Me - I'm a straight up fruit kind of girl. :)
Love me a smoothie. Especially with strawberry or banana.
My husband, son and I love fruit - our daughter, not so much. If she eats grapes at all they have to be white grapes and have been frozen. She says it's not the taste of the fruit that she doesn't like, it's the texture. I'm going to give these recipes to her. I think that would be a good way to get some fruit into her.
I love these recipes, except for the soy milk--which I'm allergic to. *grins* Lucky me, huh? I'll be using more of my blender now--Thank you!
I love fresh fruit and eat it as much as possible. But you are so right--there's nothing like bringing home fresh fruit and have it be nasty! UGH! It's enough to put me off fruit for days!
I am glad you found something that works for you. I love fresh fruit. Strawberries, grapes, and apples are my faves!
Have you tried making a fruit salad?
I'm a berry girl and I've been on a major smoothie kick lately. We froze a ton last summer from our garden and they are SO yummy with yogurt.
My hub and I devour fruit, whatever's in season. A smoothie's lovely on a hot August day.
mmmm, i love me some smoothies!
no stove?
i am so there!
lol...
maybe it is just me...but the fruit seems (tastes) weird of late...
i am making sure to wash everything!
I don't know that I've ever had a smoothie! I just love fresh fruit and often have an orange, banana and apple each day. Throw in an occasional bunch of strawberries, a nectarine, pear or grapes and I'm a happy gal.
I have been wanting a good smoothie receipe! Thanks!!
