Trash to Treasures....Kathy Style

I have a lot of things to get done right now, but I wanted to show you some of the things I have finished from my flea market finds. This wall hanging, was just a cheap find. It originally came from TJ Maxx, but I thought it was cute and Irv just loved it. I cleaned it all up and made it into this darling clock. I think it turned out pretty good.

I loved this plate. The edge is kind of a maroon with gold trim. It's hard to tell in this photo, but it's really pretty. These are also my favorite clock hands for this type of plate. I just love them!

This is a Coca Cola tray. They aren't real old, but I really liked it. They took photos from old calendars that Coke had put out in the early 1900's and did them on trays. I thought it made an unusual but fun clock. Sorry about the flash. UGH!

If you go to flea markets, you see a lot of these. I was told they are tin ceiling tiles that people have put on wood frames. Apparently they are pretty popular because I have seen them at a number of places. I love old looking things and really like this clock a lot. In fact, I would like to keep it....but I'm not.

Remember how I said I was working on a stacked china lamp? Here are some of the pieces I am playing around with just to get a feel for it. They aren't glued yet. I'm just trying to see how they all fit together. It will be a lot of work, but I think they will be fun if I can find enough tea pots and things for them. I hope to use old lamp parts as well and try not to buy anything new if I can help it.

Speaking of finding things....I never, ever, ever go to our local resale shop during the week. I never go to any resale shops during the week. That is a weekend thing for me. All day yesterday I had this nagging feeling that I needed to go to our local resale shop that day. Mind you, I rarely ever find anything at this particular shop. Well.....I did yesterday!! This is the box of "stuff" I left there with after work! Do you see that little set of china in there? I LOVE IT!

Look at the amazing tea pot!! Do you know what an awesome lamp these pieces are going to make? I am bouncing off the walls right now!!!

See the little sugar bowl? It will be turned upside down and used as the base I think. I may not be able to use the creamer because of the shape of the top, but oh my word am I excited!

I thought this guy was really cute too, and if I can find the right pieces...he will also make a cute lamp!

I think I am going to be really busy for the next couple of weeks. What I get done this week will go to the consignment shop on Saturday. Then the rest will go down when it's done. How about you....what is keeping you busy these days?

It's FRIDAY!!!

It's Friday, and all I can say is CHEE HOO!! Tonight I will try to do more organizing in my workshop. It's really hard to work when you can't find the workbench!

Tomorrow Tresa, Bernadette and I are meeting for breakfast and then we are going to peruse a big baby store. I am really excited. It's been a very long time since I've looked at baby things, because my baby is 26 years old!

I might also head to one of the larger resale shops in the area to see if they have any interesting china pieces. I am in desperate need of some.

I made an appointment with the holistic doctor. His first opening was June 30th!! Holy cow! I am anxious to get on some kind of plan for my osteo issue. I also read that weighed vests are great for the spine and hips when you walk. I found a nice one for women on line, but it's $75 plus shipping! I have some of the small bar weights here, and I'm thinking if I buy a snug workout vest and sew some sturdy pockets on it.......I can save some money. I'll be at the sporting goods store tomorrow.

Besides that, and the usual shopping. cleaning house and laundry...I have nothing else to do and that is just fine with me. How about you? Whatcha got goin' this weekend?

I'm Here

I'm still here. I had a tough time this morning. I could barely walk. It took a while to loosen up enough so I could get ready to go to work. I went into work....I know....silly me. My boss had a big training thing going on today and I wanted to be sure everything was ready. I managed to stay until 11:30 and then headed home. I just couldn't sit for more than a couple of minutes at a time. I had to keep going for walks down the hall.

I rested for a little bit when I got home, but then I had to get up and walk. Irv was home, so we took a ride to Menard's. We would love to complete our bathroom redo before Christmas, so we wrote down what we needed and what it cost. Our list consisted of things like a pedestal sink, faucet, toilet, wainscot, flooring, exhaust fan and light fixture. We found a sink and faucet we liked, and Irv looked at the toilets. I couldn't care less what kind of toilet we have. As long as it works, I'm happy. We found an exhaust fan and went back and forth between tile and vinyl flooring and ended up bringing some tile samples home to see if we like them.

I went over to look at the price of the wainscot and the packages were buy one get one free through the 15th. I tried to figure out how much we would need and grabbed four packages for $20 total!! That was a big Chee Hoo! We measured when we got home and I was right on!!

Next we bought a quart of the awesome yellow paint for our little wood toy box turned coffee table. When we got home, Irv covered the kitchen table with a tarp and set me up so I could sit or stand to paint it. I got one coat on and oh my gosh, do I love it! I will try to put the second coat on tomorrow if my back will allow it and I will show it to you once the hinges are back on. It is just so darn cute!

Since I have to do some walking tomorrow, I'm going to see if I can get Irv to go over to the resale shop. I need an old wood t.v. stand that I can paint. Maybe we will get lucky.

Well, my back is saying I have been sitting for long enough so I need to close. Sorry no pictures, but I'll make it up to you if I find anything awesome at the resale shop tomorrow. Have a wonderful evening and we will chat soon!

Super, Super Saturday

What a great day I had yesterday. I went to Walmart to pick up poster board and foam board for the Halloween costumes for work. Next stop was Hobby Lobby for some pin clasps for my new pins and some holiday paper for coasters. From there it was over to Hancock Fabrics to take advantage of their big pattern sale. I got 12 patterns for a buck each! I love those sales!

Next I headed over to the two resale shops. I didn't find much there today...just a couple of plates for cake stands and some neat candlesticks.

Then I stopped at a garage sale in our neighborhood. I didn't find anything for my shops, but I found some awesome stuff for ME!!! I love old wood picture frames. I like to sand them and paint them and use them. I found a couple of those, a very old little standing mirror frame...missing the mirror, a very rusty old metal candle holder for outside on the deck, and couple of cute little candle holders that I will probably make soap dishes with AND I got 2 wicker chairs and a little table to go with them. The grand total....$17.75!!!

Irv is going to paint the wicker pieces next spring for the deck and I'm going to make some cute cushions for them. The picture frames and mirror stand I'll work on during the winter.

When I got home I took over 250 photographs of items I made during the summer and had not had time to list in MyOtherShop yet. I will be on a listing frenzy for a while. I still have to photograph the totes and aprons and I hope to do that today.

It was a super Saturday! Hope you all have an awesome Sunday!

Productive Day for Me

I apologize, but this is going to be a short post. I am exhausted! Irv and I headed out this morning to give blood. We try to do that regularly, but it never seems to work out that way. I am O negative, plus I have never been exposed to some kind of common virus, so my blood is "extra extra special" so they tell me. I decided today to make our next appointment right now and maybe that way they won't have to call us 100 times to ask us to come in. :)

Next we headed out to Michael's Craft Store and Joanne Fabrics. I bought some bare wood picture frames that I will paint and add paper to, and some fabric to finish up some pillows. Next we visited three resale shops where I hit the jackpot with plates for cake stands, and little miscellaneous cups and containers that will be turned into pin cushions.

I got photos to kittilili who is designing my new business cards. I decided on this leaf photo for the FourDogDay side with the phrase..."Visual Poetry...photographs and note cards." Part of that phrase was suggested by Cecile/DreamCreateRepeat . Then for MyOtherShop, I'm going to use my hip black and white coasters for the photo with the phrase..."Accessories for the home...eclectic, whimsical and functional. Part of that one came from Pickles on Pizza. So, thank you everyone for the great suggestions. I can't wait to see what the cards will look like. I'll share them with you as soon as we have the final design!

The rest of the day was spent sealing coasters, photographing coasters, painting picture frames and finishing up some odds and ends so I can get them out of my workspace. I got so much done, but my back and head are telling me it's time to close up shop for the night. So have an awesome evening...pizza is on it's way!
