What Would You Do?

I have two online etsy stores....myothershop and fourdogday. I don't get a lot of sales, probably one every week or two if I'm lucky. I will be leaving on vacation soon and I am debating what to do with my shops. I have two options:

I can put them on "vacation" which means that none of my items show up in the searches or anywhere else. There would just be an announcement saying we are closed until whatever date I return and take them off vacation mode.

I can leave my shops open with an announcement saying that I am on vacation and will ship out any orders placed "today" on this date. My items will show up in the searches as normal. I will have computer access and could check my shop every couple of days for sales and then e-mail the buyer to let them know exactly when their item will be shipped.

I'm really torn. I know most people will say to put them on vacation and just go enjoy my vacation, but I work hard to stay somewhat visible on etsy and to be totally "invisible" for that long bothers me.

I've seen it done both ways....

What would you do?

Put them on vacation! I have bought things that way, as long as you are upfront about it, you will be fine. When you get back tell me about your shops! I will feature one of them on my blog...

hmm very interesting... on one hand I do understand about working so hard to be visible and might lose a sale because you're on vacation mode... though... spending your vacation worrying and checking on etsy isn't really a vacation... if anything I'd suggest to put the I on vacation will be shipped on xxxx on each item would be good... as sometimes people don't pay attention to announcement or policies...

but sorry no help from me... I'd probably not put anything on vacation when I'm on vacation and check every so often too.. =D

If it were me I'd leave my shop open with an "away" message saying purchases will ship XXXX. If I visited a closed shop I'm not sure I'd come back...but then that's just me. If I had a hot, zippy, sexy car I would name it Tommy Lee Jones! But then that's just me....

I agree with Meediyu and Lanyardlady. I would not close the shop. Just leave the message.

Have a GREAT vacation!

Thanks everyone. Alison...that is so kind of you. I'll be in touch. :)

I don't know if I could enjoy my vacation if I didn't check my shops!

I would put an announcement in your shop that you're gone and will be shipping out all orders on "this date" when you return. Like you, I will be gone later this fall and will do this, because I've worked to hard since last October to get what little exposure and following I have and don't want my shop to become invisible and/or lose some of those people because I go into vacation mode and they think I closed up for good. Just my $.02 worth. :)

after several years of reading posts about this i've closed my shops when going away--many posters agree that very few people read the announcement and get upset about the shipping delays...i'd rather just close. do what feels right....and don't forget you want to enjoy your vacation!
