It's The Weekend!

How fast do you drive? I ended up behind someone on my way to work yesterday that actually did the posted speed limit......now I am not a speed demon, but I will admit to driving a "few" mph over the posted limit some times. I kept moving over a little so the long line of cars behind me could see that it wasn't my fault that we were going soooooo slow!

Matt's 3 A DAY project has picked up steam. He started his Facebook Group and the last time I looked, they had 60 people signed on. Hopefully all 60 of those people are out there picking up some trash when they see any. That's how this will truly make a difference. If you don't know about 3 A DAY...check out my post from yesterday.

Our grandbaby to be has become quite the little kicker. Dates for baby showers are already being selected, names are being tossed around and we should know in a couple of weeks if it's a boy or a girl!

Today I will be in my workshop putting the finishing touches on some clocks for the consignment shop, and making a couple of other things. I think we are going to take our first little batch of things down on Sunday. I've been watching their posts on Facebook and it is going to be one fantastic little shop. I can't wait to see it in person.

My healthy allergen free eating is going well. I haven't had a chai latte in two weeks! Can you believe that? I might treat myself to one on Sunday. Not having any really yummy bread is probably the hardest part for me, but I know that if I want some I can have it.

I am walking 30 minutes per day without fail. Most of the time I go out on my lunch hour. If I can't for some reason, I am on the treadmill as soon as I get home. We got pedometers at work for a pilot program we are doing in the District Office and I am lovin' this little thing. I know exactly how many steps I'm taking per day. At night I plug it into my computer and upload my steps into a website that keeps track of everything for me. Pretty cool!

Well my friends I need to scoot. I have much to get done today. Make it the best day ever and don't forget to do something nice for yourself today!

3 A DAY

Do you remember a really great teacher that you had in school...or one that your kids had? I raised three kids and they had a lot of teachers. Some of them were good, and some were not so good. Some were really good and some were really bad. Out of all of those teachers, there was one that stands above the rest. He was a junior high social studies teacher that was just so creative, that the kids loved him. He didn't just teach from a book, but he came up with the most ingenious ways to help his kids learn....not just social studies, but life lessons.

I am thinking that my son Matt is going to be one of "those" teachers. Of course I am a bit prejudice. I am his mom after all....but darn....he does some cool stuff! Matt teaches 3rd grade out in Telluride, Colorado. He has already done a couple of really fantastic projects with his kids. Yesterday he e-mailed me and later called me to tell me about a new project his kids are working on. It's called 3 A DAY. The idea is that each child will pick up three pieces of litter every day. Matt used the blackboard to make it into a math lesson. If we each pick up 3 pieces a day, how many will we have in a week? A month? A year?

Then the kids got going......What if we got our friends to do it? What if we got other people to do it? How much would it be then? What if we got it on the radio and the TV and we got a thousand people to pick up 3 pieces of trash every day....what would it be then? When they got over a million pieces of trash their eyes really lit up!

So, that is what they are doing! Their local newspaper already contacted Matt to do an interview thanks to one of his students with connections. :)

If you are on Facebook and would like to join the fun....just search for 3 A DAY. The kids would love your support. If you can pass their group on to all of your friends....that would be awesome too. I would love to see this turn into something big for this great group of kids and their wonderful teacher!

Yummy Recipe

Those of you that have followed my blog for a while know that I don't cook. In fact, I really dislike cooking. I love to eat though. I wish I had a chef. That would be sooooo awesome.

With my new diet where I need to eat lots of veggies, I have actually been looking for recipes so I'm not just eating plain old steamed vegetables every night. Boring........

I found a recipe for "Sauteed Portobellos and Spinach" and since I like both of those ingredients, I thought I would give it a try.

Well let me tell you...it was sooooo easy and sooooo delicious! I think it might be my new favorite. It did have some butter and parmesan which are both no-nos for me right now....but I've been doing so good...I thought I deserved it!

For most people it would be a side dish, but for me, with a salad....it was my meal.

Here is the link to the recipe. I highly recommend it!

Making Progress

I had a very productive day on Sunday. I was able to get a few clocks almost finished for the consignment shop. I'm waiting on some of the clock parts. I love this fabric! I sold one of these in my etsy shop last week, so I made a couple more and used up the fabric. I made one rectangular one and one square one.

Tresa picked out this fabric at IKEA the last time we were there. It's a wonderful gray with white flowers in a random pattern. I thought it was kind of neat. It will have white hands.

I also finished up a few more of my new fabric glass cases. I am really liking these a lot. They are fun to make and I think they serve a great purpose. I just love these cats!

This one matches a cell phone case that I sold. I love browns and dusty rose together!

I had made an apron out of this fabric and just love the bright colors and the design. I think it makes a great glass case.

I am not very musical, but I really have a thing for notes...on fabric or on paper. I seem to like them a lot.

Then on Sunday evening I actually made something new for myself for dinner and it was amazingly good. I'll share the recipe with you later this week. So simple and soooo yummy!

Make is an awesome day today!

Who Let The Dogs Out....

and allowed them to totally destroy our back yard? Well, I guess Irv and I let them out, but we sure as heck didn't tell them to trash the yard.

When we just had Sparky and Wrigley, they would run around the yard and play with each other. It was cute and they got some exercise.

When we got Maggie...everything changed. First of all, just like with people....three is a crowd, and poor little Sparky was the odd girl out. Maggie and Wrigley became the best of friends and played together all of the time....and let me tell you...those two dogs know how to play.

We have a big tree is the back yard and they run and run and run.....around and around and around the tree and the yard. They play tag and hide and seek and every other game imaginable and the result is........our grass is about gone!

Irv tried to seed it and lay straw down. Oh, they loved that! The straw became part of the game. Not only did they have it all over the entire yard, but they ate it too. When Irv watered it, they liked it even more. Dogs + Mud = Happy!

Today Irv went and bought more dirt, more seed and........fencing. We WILL have grass again one way or another!

Sunday...

Just a very quick hello. I am going to spend the day getting things together for the consignment shop in Chicago. We would like to drop them off next weekend.

Michael and Bernadette stopped by yesterday afternoon and we ended up going out for lunch. I had the best veggie burger I have ever had.....and the place does carry out! Sweet! It will be a nice Friday evening change for me.

The weather did a u-turn from the 70s and 80's we were having and we had to cover plants last night. It got down to freezing. Brrrrrr......that was a slap in the face after last week's gorgeous weather.

Well I am off and running today. Make it the best day ever and be sure to do something really nice for yourself today!
