The Perfect Houseguest

Casey the kitty came to visit Thursday night. Irv was off on Friday, so I called him late in the morning to see how Casey and our dogs were doing and to see how his ceiling painting was going. All I heard when he answered the phone was, "Get out of the (bleeping) paint!"

"I can hear things are going well," I said. :)

You tend to forget how curious cats are when you haven't had one around for a while. The dogs were terrified of Casey after she smacked them both in the head when they got too close on Friday. She doesn't have claws, so I'm sure just their canine pride was hurt.

Casey didn't do anything that cats don't normally do. She was very well behaved....for a cat. I was quickly reminded though of the things that drove me crazy when I had cats.

Here are a few:

Dogs eating cat poop
Cats sprawling out on the kitchen table
Cats walking across the stove when you are making dinner and the burners are ON
Cats having to lick every glass, cup, plate, bowl, knife, fork, spoon, pot and pan you set down
Cats wanting to help you put on your make up in the morning
Cats intentionally knocking things off tables because they think it's fun to hear them hit the floor
Cats that make a game out of jumping on the counter and having you put them back down on the floor
Cats that can jump back up on the counter faster than you can stand back up after putting them on the floor

Cats are cute and cuddly, but somewhere between the loss of our last cat and this past weekend the antics I once thought were adorable have become not quite so cute.

I told Irv that I really don't want a kitten anymore and he agreed. I also told him I don't think I want a third dog and he said, "I do".

Hmmmmmm.....woof, woof, woof?

Casey looks so sweet and innocent. Remember that kittens do grow into cats...and then all they do is sleep! Give her some love from me!! ~Natalie

I tried to have a kitten in my house in 2006... he only lasted about 3 weeks, but I was very, very lucky as one of my friend's mother was looking for a kitten and he was the perfect match for her other 3 cats. I guess I will always and thoroughly be a dog person!

Living with 11 cats have taught me some things over the past couple of months. Cats used to be worshipped as gods and THAT knowledge has been passed through all cat generations! They never forget that little tidbit and they never let us forget either.

Other than that, you have to THINK like a cat. They are quite telempathic. If you think think to yourself, "Please Casey--don't help me with my makeup!" she will believe you want her to DO the opposite--because after all you are an inferior creature and don't know your own mind.

On the other hand, if you think "I need to take the cat to the vet..." OR "It's time to pill the cat!" every one of them will scatter to the winds and hide until they believe you have forgotten such an irrational and illogical thought.

She's a cutie!! Yes, they are adorable but can drive you crazy at the same time.
I have a handy spray bottle filled with plain water. When they do something bad I pull out the bottle and they all scatter.

oh, I LOVE cats! They can be annoying at times, but I can't help but love them. To me, dogs are much worse with all their licking and having to go outside and neediness and all.

Sorry, I'm a cat person. Don't get me wrong, I do like dogs, I really do. I just LOVE cats.

We have 3 cats, and I'm still not tired of the antics...but I could see how quickly I can get used to sleeping through the night again if they weren't here!

I have never ever had a cat.

I can't wait to see the redecorated rooms!

Cats are wonderful, but you do truly have to be a cat person to appreciate them! The last dog I had was when I was a kid, but I do love dogs and all animals. I've had many cats since then and don't know how I could live without them! Remember the maddening antics do lessen as they get older...

Ah yes, knocking things off counters just to hear it hit the floor is one of my cat's favorite games. I'll get up in the morning to find all the little things that WERE on my desk, now on the floor. Gotta love em!
