Update.....

Soooooo, are all of you getting up off your butts and doing a little walking every day? Are you eating healthier? Are you taking care of yourself the way you know you should be? I know you are probably tired of me harping at you all of the time, but it is so much better to prevent a problem than to treat a problem. Right? Right!

Since getting my treadmill, I have not missed a day of walking. Without it, I would have missed many days due to the weather here, and just being too tired when I get home. Poor excuse, but I'm being honest. With the treadmill, I am in the basement every single day walking at least 30 minutes. During the week, I'm down there at 5:30 a.m. I would like to increase that as time goes on, but for now it's 30 minutes. I am holding little 1.5 pound dumbbells for part of the walk to do something good for my arms and shoulders too.

My diet is coming along nicely. I'm learning to stay away from animal proteins, including dairy and to get my protein from plants and other sources. That way the pH in my blood stays more balanced and it won't steal calcium from my bones to correct any imbalance. It's really been easier than I thought it would be.

I have found that I can eat a lot of the foods that I enjoy that might throw that balance off by also eating fruits and vegetables with them to keep everything the way it should be.

I bought a powdered calcium with magnesium that is suppose to be better absorbed and I'll start that today. There was another supplement that a co-worker said her mom has been using, but I can't find it in any of our stores so I might have to order it online if I decide to try it. I'm still researching it. Do any of you take OsteoValin? That's what it's called. It's basically strontium.

I have eliminated most of the salty snacks I was eating on a daily basis...and I do miss them. I had some crackers over the weekend and they tasted just grand! It's okay to do that occasionally, just not on a daily basis.

I am losing weight, even though that was not my intention. I don't own a scale, but my clothing is telling me that I am.

Besides all of those nice things that I am doing for myself each and everyday, I'm also trying to do something I really enjoy every day. I'm just taking a little time for me...to watch some of the Olympics, to read a bit, to plan, to dream......

What nice things are you doing for yourself?

Wow, sounds like you are doing great!! I was just thinking last night that I need to pamper myself a little more. I've pretty much always eaten well, I've never been an snacker, but I know I need to move a little more... Good thing we have our dog - he keeps me fairly active! Glad you are enjoying your treadmill!! Hugs, Silke

I've been reading 'the book' at night, and finding it very interesting. I've always eaten lots of veggies but not much fruit because of the high carbs but am trying to wrap my mind around this and will. I'm back on my elliptical machine. I find it's less stress on my knees than a treadmill but will start walking also as soon as the weather gets better. Sounds like you are doing fantastic! I can give up my snacks as long as I can have my crunchy peanut butter! LOL Happy week!

Hi Kathy, you really are a credit I so want to get fit but I keep making the weather an excuse, it is cold and wet and icy but, if I really tried I could walk every day. I will try reall hard over the next few weeks I know once I start I will be o.k it is just that push to get started.

We can all use a little harping from time to time :)

I've been good about walking 1-2 miles most days (all outsided even if I am dressed up in crazy layers to keep out the snow).

Eating is what I really, really need to work on more. My husband is traveling for work again, so hopefully I'll get back on track in the next 3 weeks (it's much easier without him home because I swear he was raised in a family that eats vegetables only once or so a week and it is taking a lot of work to get him to ensure there are some in every meal).

I just joined Curves the first of the month. I have to go 3 times a week so my insurance pays half of the monthly fee. So far, I think the biggest benefit is that it gets me out of the house. That alone seems to lift my spirits. I'm incorrigible when it comes to keeping up a healthy eating routine. Those baked potatoes with butter keep calling my name.

Thank you for the reminder!

When I keep to my regular...

fresh lemon water in the morning, I keeps me away from the snacking. And keeps all my insides in working order.

There are so many minerals in a squeeze of a half lemon, that it tells the body that it has every thing it needs, so there are no urgings for salty things.

It's a miracle.

Be well.

I admire you for your willpower. I wonder whether the 1.5 pound weights do something to your arms .
I have two 3 pounds each weights and exercise with them, but I see no results.

Keep up the good work and updating us!

I am so glad you can stay on track - actually better than on track!
You're making the rest of us look bad! My weakness is exercising. I can discipline the food but not the exercise!

Hi there, your blog caught my eye because you have three dogs. I write about dogs (and other things) for a living... anyways, I love those dog tags on the right sidebar! Very cute.

Great progress! I knew you could do it!

I am doing great on my diet and have almost lost my 7 Holiday pounds.

I have also been "not so cheap" and have had fun buying a few things for myself and not feeling guilty about it.

Good for you...very impressive dedication and progress! I'm eating better and drinking a lot of water, and I'm dancing around with the grandkids every day. Walking will come when the icy sidewalks clear up a little.

I'm proud of you for sticking to your plan. I just treated myself big and went to a workshop. Now to apply the things I learned to my daily life.

Kathy--you are making me feel guilty! These past two weeks it's either been too cold or too snowy or I've been too tired to do my walking. It's showing too. I need to find a treadmill to do here in the office so I can some exercise in! Thanks for the kick in the pants!
