It's "twirly" time! We have two trees in our yard that produce "twirlies". Of course, you know what "twirlies" are. They are the little twirly guys that grow on the trees in the spring and then fall off all over the yard, the driveway, the cars, the road and even in the gutters.
Irv hates "twirly" time, because it means dragging out the ladder and getting the darn things out of the gutter. If you don't do that, they tend to plug it up when it rains and then you have water gushing over the sides of the gutters in places that you don't want water gushing over the sides of the gutters.
Irv also sweeps them up....over and over and over again. I don't mind the "twirlies". If it were up to me, I would just let them be...except the ones in the gutters.
We have big trees with lots of "twirlies" and they just keep on coming.
Soon "twirly" season will be done and Irv can get back to doing things he enjoys....because he does NOT enjoy the "twirlies"!

I used to love the twirlies when I was a kid. They somehow seemed magical... Here, it's the pine needles that constantly need to be cleaned up and cleared off the roof. Also not Daniel's favorite thing to do... Have a great day!! Love, Silke
Oh Oh! I still love the twirlies! We call them helicopters lol. Our helicopter season has already come and pretty much gone. I still love throwing them up in the air and watching them twirl back down to the ground. My min pin loves it too and goes after them on their way down. :)
we used to call them helicopters, too. we used to open the seed part and stick them on our noses like little horns ;-)
Hi Kathy, poor Irv, we also have Helicopters (Twirlies) and we loved them as kids but I can imagine they must be a pain when they get in the gutters, we have the same problem with moss on the roof, the birds take some of it for nests and just throw the rest into the gutters or all over the patio and that makes me a bit disgruntled.
Love Jillxx
Poor Irv! We loved them as kids and called them helicopters. They're a pain but truly one of nature's more fascinating creations.
I think the twirlies have invaded the US. My favorite are from our red maple trees. They are tiny and often self seed in the yard.
Oh, poor Irv.
LOLOL I can imagine the grumbling... I love twirlies too >_<
We call them helicopters, too. They are fun if you don't have to clean them up!
I've always loved the twirlies, ever since I was a little girl! admittedly, i've never had to clean them up though, so maybe my opinion would be different if i were Irv. ;) they sure are pretty when they're falling though!
I would trade you your twirlies for the cottonwood seeds floating all over our area. They coat everything with fuzz and defy being swept up!
We called them helicopters too--but I love the name twirlies! They were part of a magical portion of my childhood, but I remember hearing the adults grumble and moan. In our neck of the woods, we have Siberian Elm seed pods that blow everywhere. They don't quite clog up the gutters but they do infiltrate everything else.
Sorry Irv--but that's one of the hassles of being an adult! You don't get to enjoy the magical moments as often! *grins*
Oh I LOVE twirlies! lol Jeff hates them, too. :)
We have the twirlies also but worse than those are the striny things that come off the oak trees and stick in Lucy's hair and get pulled through the house by little doggie feet.
Yes, Twirlie time = achoo to me!
i remember those from when i was a kid. the neighbors' tree (up the street from us) had tons of them and us kids would go collect them by the can full. that would be coffee can... one time, one of the kids fell on a coffee can and nearly severed her leg. ick... i remember the strangest things. but - the ambulance came and took her to the hospital and fixed her up. everytime i see these, i "re-see" the picture of her being tended to by the firemen.
Hi Kathy , nice of you to visit my blog . So you like my garden ! thankyou , I,m glad I don,t have your twirly things .I just about cope with the weeds--cottonreel
