Kitchen Cabinets......UGH!

When I was off to go to the dentist on Thursday, I had some time before my appointment, so not being one to sleep late or lay around I started cleaning out my disgusting kitchen cabinets. I really wonder how two people who aren't home all day long can create the mess that Irv and I create in our home. What is with us? We toss crap on the kitchen table rather than sort through it or just put it away. We shove things in drawers and throw things in the cabinets. Oh how I wish we were tidier.

So, I pulled everything out of the food cabinet and decided to put the dishes in the food cabinet and the food in the dish cabinet....chuckling all the while....because Irv HATES change!

I can't even begin to tell you how much he hates it. The tiniest little wrinkle in the norm can throw him into a fit of frustration.....in a funny way of course....sort of.

Then I moved the aluminum foil and baggies and freezer bags into the dish towel drawer and the dish towels into the foil and baggie drawer. The rest of the cabinets I just emptied, wiped out and put back in order.

I couldn't get over our little spice cabinet. How on earth do I accumulate so many little containers of spices when I don't even cook? I think I find a recipe, buy the stuff, cook it once and then never again. I had spices in there that had expired in 2006 and 2007!

It definitely looks better now!

When I got home from the dentist, I quickly finished up what I had started before the numbness in my mouth wore off. Once it did, I didn't really give a crap what the cabinets looked like.

Friday morning when I woke up long before the alarm....I knew there was no way I would be working. I slept in.....until 6:00 a.m. and then decided that the only way I would get through a long day with a throbbing mouth, head and face was to do something. I would work on the cabinets a bit, ice my face a bit, rest a bit and so on throughout the morning. By noon, my energy was sapped and I ended up doing very little else.

So, are the cans in your cabinet in alphabetical order?

wow! those are very neat and tidy kitchen cabinets! Mine aren't bad but they are not as neat as that! and we won't talk about the refrigerator or the pan cupboard, okay???

and you should have seen this house we're working on--unbelievable hoarder this woman was--there were cans and boxes of food stashed in the living room next to the couch even...

I hope your mouth feels better soon!
LOL, our cabinets are not alphabetized, but I did take it upon myself to clean out my mother's "pantry" in the basement back in the winter. There were things that were expired in the 1990s....AHHH!

Looking pretty tidy there. I think I have cloves from 2000, because I don't cook with them, just stick them in oranges!

Way to use all that energy! I try to keep my cabinets reasonably organized, but they are cabinets and things get moved around. I try to roll with it. But I'd be with Irv if the baggies and dish towels got moved around!

Mine are not in any sort of order, haha. Great job on organizing yours. B. also hates any sort of change. Hope your mouth is healing well.

Oh I'm very picky about my kitchen. But I've learned to leave my husband's cabinets alone. They aren't mine--they are full of foods I can't eat so I don't open them. As long as the doors close, I'm not tempted to clean them out. LOL

My cabinets are like yours before you cleaned them. I don't cook either, but have all those spice containers, too! And heck no, no order whatsoever to my cupboards! I should tho, it would just make life easier.

hope your mouth feels better today. my pantry is a mess. always and forever. i clean and reorganize and it still gets messy. i do have to say that without amy, isaiah, lecole and her two kids living there that it has stayed much neater. ron rarely goes into the pantry so any mess or chaos is strictly my own making. since i can't stand clutter, it doesn't stay that way long.

now, if i could just get the rest of the house as organized...

I do my kitchen cabinets once a year, so they aren't TOO bad. It probably helps that I donate anything unopened each time there's a food drive. It forces things to stay under control.

haha! alphabetical order!? Please tell me you didn't!

Jon and I are the same way about leaving little piles of stuff everywhere...um, well, I guess to be fair, I'm the one that does that really. He's actually pretty tidy. I just like to pretend it's both of us.

I need to organize our pantry. when we moved in things just kind of got thrown in there. That was a year ago! it could use some organizing. I like to think of it as an organized chaos though, i know where everything is!

I actually know a guy who stocks his kitchen like a grocery. He rotates stock, has the labels turned the right way, and has everything pulled to the front- it came from years of him being a stock boy!

I have no idea how you even thought about the cabinets with your wisdom tooth troubles! That sounds like one day when you should have just been lazy!
