Siblings

Do you have siblings? I have three sisters and one brother. My oldest brother passed away many years ago. My mom married very young, had three children and when they were little, their dad passed away. Years later, my mom and dad were married and had three kids. There is a 10 year gap between the two "sets" of kids, which made things a bit unusual....I didn't really get to know my brothers very well, because they both spent 20 years in the Navy when I was growing up.

My sibs all live out of state....Arizona, Georgia, Tennessee and South Carolina....do you see a pattern there? They all took off for warmer weather and left me here all by myself!

Did you get along with your brothers and sisters when you were young? How about as teens and young adults?

My sisters and I fought like crazy when we were younger and then got closer as we grew up. My younger sister Kay was able to come up from South Carolina for the wedding last weekend and we decided that I must have been adopted! I have always been the black sheep of the family...I've always marched to the beat of a different drummer.

Kay and I have absolutely nothing in common, but we love spending time together. The only things we have in common are our parents and our love for each other. We don't look alike, think alike or act alike. We don't like the same kind of clothes, we don't eat the same kinds of foods, we don't enjoy the same kinds of activities and even though we both like to travel, our idea of a great vacation is not even remotely similar!

How is that we all grow up in the same house being raised by the same parents and we all end up so different? I realize we are all individuals, but wouldn't you think there would be some similarities somewhere?

Do you see that with your siblings and with your children? My kids are all very different, and my siblings and I are all so very different. I guess it would make for a boring household if everyone was the same.

Being different is what makes life interesting. Do you and your siblings have similar personalities? How about your kids?

Sounds like my family. I'm the oldest and have a sister I'm 5 years older and a half brother that I am 16 years older. We all look very different but we all have tiny similarities like me and my brother loves cheese but my sister hates it... my brother and sister loves tomatoes but I hate it! lolol... though our ages are different we actually get along pretty darn well. =D

I'm the oldest of 3, but given the 15 year age difference that, and I left home at 16-they're more like my own children than siblings. In fact, my brother is just 5 years older than my son, and my sister only 2 years older!

We're all very different, as time goes on my brother is slowly taking on my long held position as the in-house black sheep. Funny thing is he's still nothing like me!

As for my own children, it's hard to make heads or tails of it right now-my oldest is 17 and trying out new personalities like fashion trends. The other is 9 and based on the insanity that came with puberty and the first child, I can't even begin to get my head around just who my sweet princess might become!

One sister—15 months younger—and we are night and day. She's very social, aggressive and gorgeous. I prefer being alone, passivity, and have never known gorgeous. I admire and love her, and wish we had had more in common as we were growing up.

I am adopted and my adopted brother and I never really got along as kids, teens or adults. It's a shame...we or I tried to reconnet with him right after christmas this year...it had been so many years since we had even talked. It was nice talking to him and he promised to keep in touch but hasn't. I guess somethings never change....It's sad but that's life I guess....

I am the oldest of 3. I have a sister who is 3 years younger and a brother who is 13 years younger. We are all so very, very different. I have tried for many years to connect, to forge a better relationship but to no avail. Perhaps the distance is a factor too:) We did have some good times as kids, but cannot seem to connect as adults. I am much closer to several of my cousins than my siblings. Sad, but ultimately, we all have to walk our own paths:):)

there was just my sister and me. we are quite different in many ways but also the same in many ways. you can definitely tell we are related. my mom was divorced when we were quite young and the three of us were very close. my mom is gone but my sister and i are still close.
