My New Dirty Little Secret

Okay, so I'm doing really good at giving up my Starbucks....they made a Starbucks run at work yesterday and I declined! It took everything I had, but I did it. I am conquering the addiction...however, I have a new addiction now. I can't believe I am about to say this, but it's

Shhhhhhhh.....please don't tell anybody. I'm a little embarrassed, so just add it to my addictions list, right under etsy and my blog!

About 6 months ago my son Matt signed up. He kept bugging me to sign up so that we could play Scrabble. I really don't have time for that kind of silliness, but after a while I thought....what harm could it do? It's just for Scrabble now and then.

Well, I will tell you what harm it can do....I can't stay off of it! I feel like the nosey neighbor lady always wanting to know what everyone is doing! And get this....Matt quit playing Scrabble after our second game, and you want to know why? NO TIME! HA....go figure!

The addiction just reared it's ugly head about a week ago. I was attempting to set up a Facebook business page for FourDogDay and I started reading the little blurbs my "friends" were writing. My friends were just my family members and a couple of people that asked me to be their friend that I didn't even know. I figured they couldn't be too dangerous since they were Facebook friends with my daughter, so I said yes.

Anyway, I set up my business page and then I found myself starting to comment on people's little blurbs. Then I found myself writing some little blurbs of my own. Then people started commenting on my little blurbs. Then I started searching for old friends on Facebook, and I found some! So, more friends meant more little blurbs. Then I posted some pictures which lead to "tagging" which lead to more little blurbs which has lead to my Facebook addiction!!

When I am at work, staring at my computer, I can hear Facebook calling me, "Check me, check me. You won't believe the great little blurbs you are missing Kathy!!!" I will admit to the old "CPC" method....oh, that's "Click....Peek....Close". I can actually "Click....Peek....Close", my blog, MyOtherShop, FourDogDay and Facebook all within about 30 seconds!! Really!

My name is Kathy and I am oh so messed up!

What a riot! I have resisted Facebook for all those reasons but you make it sound fun. What will be next? Twitter?

I started a Myspace page in 2005. I stayed addicted to it for about a year and a half. I finally just stopped looking at it one day and never looked back. I have never signed up for facebook. I do have a Twitter account...but I don't really "get" twitter. Isn't it strange how easily we can get addicted to things like that?

Oh, Kathy! As long as our son is on facebook, I'm not going there.

I told CK about the little piece I did on my blog, and he wanted to buy something from my shop. He's going to send me a signed photo in exchange, how cool is that?

I FEEL your "pain!!" I counted it up the other day and, totaling sales venues and social networking sites, I'm on 15!!! No wonder I haven't "had" time to finish building my own website yet! I'm seriously feeling the need to decide which are worth it and cut out a bunch b/c I can't keep this up! ;) Maybe if I could "CPC" as quickly and effectively as you...
;)

PS... YES! Surfing is HARD! But amazing too! Ended up talking to surfer working on his PhD while there... He's doing his thesis on the depression index among surfers vs. general population. Says it's *significantly* lower-- not surprising. It requires meditative like focus while you're bonding with the nature.

To funny you made me giggle. I have been avoiding Facebook..I am afraid to go to the site. My daughter already gives me a bad time about being addicted to my blog ( well maybe just a little ). I really can't start a new addiction.
I know what you mean about being able to CPC..I do it at work with my shop and blog. I try to do it first thing before I open the office after that I'm too busy and have to wait till I get home...:)
I wonder if there a meetings for people like us?

Ha, ha, Kathy, you crack me up:) I did get on Facebook, just because my cousins in England and Malaysia bugged me to. But, really I have about 6 friends:):) Meanwhile, I see people with hundreds of friends. Guess, I am not going to jump on that bandwagon anytime soon:):)

this is just too funny! i am considering starting a page there since so many people i know are having fun there....but i know it will become just one more distraction for me on the computer...and i'm not sure i can resist much longer now that i've read this ;-)

Haha, great post! I´m on FB too and it´s kind of addictive, like twitter. Once you are there, you can´t stop lol

Seriously, me too. It's bad.
...and a total waste of time, generally speaking.

Well, it seems that EVERYBODY on Etsy is on Facebook or Myspace. I have resisted it, I already spend way too much time on the computer as it is. Good luck to you with your "addiction". LOL
