To Carve or Not To Carve....That Is The Question

The answer is simple. There is no way in h--- I am carving another pumpkin ever in my entire life!!

Do you carve pumpkins for Halloween? I don't. Even thinking about it might make me puke. As a child I had a very strong gag reflex and lots of things made me almost throw up. The fact that strong smells bothered me, seeing yukky stuff bothered me and touching slimy things bothered me...made pumpkin carving sheer torture! If I wanted a pumpkin though....I had to clean it out myself.

So I would sit and gag and cry and almost puke every Halloween, but I would clean that friggin' pumpkin amidst the laughter of some not so sympathetic siblings and parents. I remember one year doing it with a close pin on my nose!

I did my best to put my pumpkin carving phobia aside when my kids were little, but Irv did most of what I was unable to do. Once the stringy smelly goo was out of the inside, I was great at scraping it clean with a spoon. I had to have a nice clean inside with no sign that the yukky stuff was ever in there.

Just thinking about pulling that top off and seeing all of that stuff just makes me shudder. I can smell it right now and there isn't a pumpkin anywhere in site!

Angela at Pickles On Pizza did an awesome "bejeweled"pumpkin this year. Maybe I should try that. Or maybe I should just go down and get my little lighted plastic pumpkin from the basement, sit him in the window and say Bah Humbug to Halloween....or is that Christmas?

The funniest thing is....I LOVE pumpkin pie and can eat a whole one myself!

I bought my firt pumpkin this year in a long time (it's been more than 10 years). I didn't think it was that big at the farmer's market, but carrying it to the front porch, I think I almost hurt my back and standing next to it, the top is above my knees... I wanted to carve it just for the heck of it. But now I am scared to move it again and it seems to be such a daunting task to open this thing up.

It's too much like work to carve a pumpkin! Stopped doing it after they kept getting thrown in the road by naughty trick-or-treaters! So instead I eat a chocolate-covered peanut butter pumpkin!

You are so funny! I love the flash-back photos! I think the best part is your love for pumpkin pie. That is the icing on the cake...or the pie. :0)

I'm so sorry even the thought of carving a pumpkin makes you want to hurl. I'd sure stick with reproductions if I were you. We haven't carved a pumpkin since our 2 oldest grandsons were little. Love the photos from back in the day.

I don't carve pumpkins...my husband does. Cathryn doesn't do slime--end of story! I tried the first couple of years we were married but he had to clean them out and make sure none of the stringy-slimey stuff was still in the pumpkin. Husband LOVES carving a few pumpkins every year!

Don't carve it. Just paint a face on it :)
