What's In That Water?

I LOVE water! I LOVE lakes and streams and oceans and ponds and rivers. I could sit on the shore of any body of water and just watch the water for hours. I am actually writing this during my lunch on Monday. I drove into one of the neighborhoods near work that has a pond, and I am sitting in my car with the windows open, looking out at the water. It's so pretty. It's so peaceful.

Yes, I LOVE water....just don't ask me to go in it! Oh, I love pools and I'm a pretty fair swimmer, but I can't swim in any natural body of water. I can wade in clear water where I can see the bottom, but I would never swim in it. I don't like wading in river or lake water where I can't see what might be lurking. Swim in a lake or river......oh my heavens NO!!

I am fine in a boat on the river where I can see the shore, but not so cool in a boat on a lake, and I doubt I will ever go on a cruise. Yep....really!

No, I didn't have a near drowning experience. I was in lakes and rivers all of the time when I was a kid and I loved it. I'm not sure what happened. Now just the thought of that makes me hyperventilate!

The ocean is awesome, and I could watch it and listen to it all day long....but the thought of sharing that water with sharks and other "things" with big teeth...terrifies me.

My dream is to live on a body of water one day, because I love to look at it. I just don't want to be IN it.

The only thing that would get me in a boat on a big body of water is if I ever had an opportunity to go on a whale watching boat. Then I would have to find a way to put my fear aside, because that is something I absolutely have to do. I am just in awe of those animals.

Is there anything you fear? Oh come on....is there? How do you feel about water? Spiders? Snakes? Flying? Heights? Anything give you that creepy little feeling in your gut?

Oh, Kathy, I feel the same about water - not a huge fan of being in it, but I do try to overcome it a bit since we live by the beach. Here in the South I won't go into any small pond or standing water because of the snakes and alligators, but I do swim in the ocean. So far so good.

Only in August I stay out of the water because of all the stinging jelly fish and sting rays that come here to breed.

I thought I felt the same as you about cruises, but I've been on two now and LOVE it. We are going again this year. Those ships are so huge, you almost forget you are on a boat. But my favorite part - sitting up on deck somewhere and looking out at the ocean. There's nothing more inspiring to me!

Have a wonderful day! And stay dry... Love, Silke

I've been in and out and on the water my whole life so that's not a big fear for me--though I have a healthy respect for the power of water and worry a lot more about drowning or hypothermia than I do sharks, etc....I spend a lot of time on boats, wading through hip deep water in search of critters and lots of time hanging out with kids and nets catching tadpoles and turtles in fresh water and crabs and fish in salt water ;-)

as for fears? I'm not big on things creeping around in the dark. I have done a lot of full moon walks in my time and seen lots of shiny eyeballs staring at me and that gives me the shivers, i have to admit...i am not a fan of spider webs in my face (first one out on the woodland trail always gets spider webs in the face!) and free moving fire makes me nervous...i don't have any big phobias but i do have a healthy fear and respect of things that could hurt me ;-)

When it comes to water, I'm a strange one. I'm not one for really swimming period. I'm a pretty good swimmer, I just don't really like it. I do, however, love to be out ON the water. Put me in a canoe in the middle of a lake, and I'm the happiest you'll ever see.

As for my fears, I would probably say falling. I love heights, like being on a mountain or something else I know won't crumble. But put me on an old ladder, and I'm scared to death. I'm working on it though, so hopefully that will go away soon.

Heights. Can't stand near ledges, look down and then look up without almost losing it. Vertigo, I suppose. Although, when I was young I loved climbing those old fire towers and had no problem. Invincible youth!

i know, i'm weird. space will make me cry if i think about it too long. it just never ends...it keeps going, and going, and going....
and ostriches are just creepy.

Bridges. I hate bridges. Don't know if it's a fear of heights or a fear of falling, but my parents had the same phobia. I love water too but only as a spectator. Too many unknown creatures and dangerous currents in the ocean!

I am just like you about water!! Glad I am not alone on that one. I call myself "Scardy Kat" all the time because I am afraid of lots of things.

Heights are what does it for me. I can't even watch a movie or tv show where there are scenes showing heights. I just get totally woozy. For some crazy reason I had a brain freeze and actually rode Soarin' at Disney World a few years ago. It was the all time most traumatic ride I've ever been on. I don't know what possessed me to do it.

I'll swim in just about any kind of water. I actually love cold lake swimmiing out to the wooden rafts set in the middle of the lake.
Call me crazy, but I don't even mind the murky dark bottom.

I don't have any real fears about water or other stuff, but the real bugaboo for me is job-hunting and writing a resume. I get knots in my stomach just thinking about it! Thank God I'm now retired and NEVER have to do that again!

By the way, I love your portrait! It's so nice to have a face to put to the blogger!

I confess, I'm a little claustrophobic. Water doesn't freak me out, but oceans at night do.

I love lakes in the same way...I don't really want to be in them. I did get to go in them as a kid..but always hated that the bottom was so murky. But it's better for swimming w/o fear of sharks like in the ocean! Though the ocean is so fun..it's worth the chance lol!

Whale watching trips here are awesome! I hope you get to come to Maui some day and go on one :)

I love water too. I love to be in it and I love to look at the beauty of lakes and oceans and so on. I'm not a good swimmer, in fact, if the pool is any deeper than 4 feet, I freak out. LOL

Those photos are beautiful!

I am scared of heights!

I am a terrible swimmer but I love water! I even went SCUBA diving a couple of years ago- it was so incredible!

Hi Kathy, I know what you mean, I cold never swin in a freshwater lake or river if something touched my legs or feet I would scream blue murder. I can just about paddle in the sea as long as I can see the bottom and their is no seaweed or fish. I did get up the courage to whale watch when we were on Cape Cod for a holiday and it was one of the most moving experiences I have ever had. You just have no idea how beautiful these creatures are, Majestic is probably the right word and we were so lucky they put on a real show for us there were about 20 whales in the water around our boat at one time (I was a little scared)it was like a ballet for something so huge they were very graceful. I was glad however to get my feet back on terra firma.

You are funny. Love the water but won't go in it. LOL

I want to retire to a lakeside home. Not sure when or where, but that's the general plan. I don't mind what's in a lake, but the ocean, yeah, that causes concern.
