Playing With The Worms

I played with the worms on Saturday. I use to love digging in the dirt and playing with the worms....well, I don't really play with the worms...in fact, I try really hard not to hurt them when I'm digging in the garden.

I got a lot done and the front flower beds are looking pretty good. Our village offers free mulch, so Irv decided to go over to the township building on Saturday and load up the truck with free mulch rather than spend money on it at the store. Too bad it was all gone and we ended up having to go buy it any way.

Two of our bushes in front died this winter which is such a shame. We will have to plant new ones this fall. I planted some annuals between the perennials, but I need to go get one more flat for the side of the house and then we should be all set. It's nice when the end is in sight.

Then it's just cutting grass and watering and enjoying. Do you plant a lot of flowers?

Hi Kathy, I admire people who have a green thumb and make their yards look beautiful with flowers. Unfortunately, I'm not one of them. :) Strictly a perennial person here. We used to get the free mulch also when we lived in the Charlotte area.

The plants look pretty. I love hostas.

I enjoy gardening but because we have so many trees we get little sun. Your flower beds are neat and colorful and will be a source of joy all summer.

your gardens are lovely and so controlled and orderly! my yard is sort of wild but i have many flowers and flowering shrubs and trees. i also have many little gardens, including a mint garden. most of the plants i have multiply quickly and i have to do weekly battle with invasives such as multiflora and bittersweet. i have tons of herbs and veggies too so it is a busy place. i think the weeds are pretty happy, too, since we are totally organic around here and have been for the 25 or so years we've been here and they seem to benefit from the rich compost as much as the flowers and veggies. i let many weeds flower and grow such as dandelions, sorrel and queen anne's lace so by mid summer we are full of butterflies and baby birds hopping about....your yard looks very neat...i will post pictures of mine along the way--neat is not one of the descriptors you would use ;-)

Your gardens are lovely. Free mulch would have been wonderful. So sorry you missed out.

My husband plants a few flowers (I have such a brown thumb!) but we go more the way of the perennials. I'm very proud of the flowers in our garden this year.

Those look great! I just put in herbs and vegetables myself--we'll see what happens.

Thank goodness for all the perennials I planted over the years... now we have color even when I haven't gotten out to work on it. Still need a ton of annuals for the planters around the yard. Daycare ends for this year in another week, so that's when I'll get to that project.

My yard doesn't look as good as yours, but I'm hoping it will by this summer! Free mulch--my-oh-my--you said the magic word: FREE! I'm sorry you missed out on that. I can't wait to see the summer results of your gardening!
