Deck the Halls

Little note: Matt decided to leave Telluride early because of all of the nasty weather that was about to descend on Colorado, Iowa and Illinois. He drove through a blizzard coming home one year and it was not fun, so I think this was a very wise decision. He called last night when he stopped for the night and he has 14 hours to go! That means if all goes well....he will be home early this evening!!!!! Chee Hoo!

Here are the last of our special Christmas decorations....

This little beauty was made by one of the boys....not sure which one any more...the initials on the bottom are MK...which could be either. It's made from a plastic bottle covered with tissue paper. The face is drawn on and then he has cotton sticking out of the top of the bottle as the white on the end of his hat. He has definitely taken a beating over the years, but he's hanging in there.

This lovely clay snow man was made by Tresa in 1982. He weighs a ton and he's full of cracks....but with very careful handling...he could be around for a while yet.

And last, but definitely not least.....the famous and infamous "Blue Angel". What on earth was I thinking when I bought this tree topper....and yes, I really did buy it. I thought she was so cute....at the time. The kids loved her though and every year they took turns being lifted into the air by daddy to place the wonderful little angel on the top of the tree. It was such an honor. She no longer graces the top of the tree, but does still get the respect she so deserves with a spot on the living room shelf!

Now we just have a big, clear snowflake that I wire to the top of the tree. I've never been able to find something that I really like, but I keep looking. One day I will find it.

What tops your Christmas tree if you have one?

An angel tops our tree...although I'm looking for another tree topper. I am looking forward in putting the ornaments back on the tree today--I think the kittens have learned their tree lessons!

Ijust love all the artwork from the kids! We've got a Santa hat on top of our tree that's special because it came from my mom one year with a little bit of "green" inside when we needed it! Welcome home, Matt!

OMG! I have that same angel but mine's not blue! I will try to get a picture of it--seriously, it has to be related! Mine was my mom's--too funny!

Your decorations are SO sweet. We have an angel atop our tree. Your idea for "unhung" ornaments is very clever--I may have to borrow it.

Oh I love the ornaments from the kids! I have a couple like that which have survived over the years and I'm always amazed when I pull them out, year after year, that they are still in one piece. Wonderful memories, aren't they Kathy?!

My mom still puts out the raggedy decorations we made as children too, and every year they make us smile!
The last few years I have a bow on the top of my tree, but I also, am always on the lookout for the perfect topper! Merry Christmas!

My husband made the wooden angel that tops our tree. Every year he fastens it on with copper wire around the waist. When I married him I started covering the wire with a big ribbon that streams out in what I think of as a classical style. He's very proud of it, and it's just one of many very meaningful ornaments.
