Terrific News Tuesday

So, how do you like to share good news? Do you like to just blurt it out all at once? Do you like to tease people and feed them little bits and pieces as you work your way to "the main event"? I like to be clever and string people along until they just can't stand it any longer, but normally I'm the one that can't stand it and I just yell it at the top of my lungs, kind of like this....

I AM GOING TO BE A GRANDMA!!!!!!!!!!

Yes, it's true. I am going to be a Grandma. My daughter Tresa and her husband Chris are expecting their first child and our first grandchild in September. I can't even begin to tell you how excited we all are.

It has been SOOOO hard not to tell you, but Tresa wanted to wait a little bit. She was at the doctor yesterday for her second check up and everything is looking good. Little baby was so active that the doctor called him/her a jumping bean. He/she also had hiccups and even put his/her little arms up over his/her head! Doesn't that just blow your mind when the little chipper isn't even two inches long yet?

Every Thursday Tresa sends us all an e-mail she receives from a baby website. It tells us what the baby is doing and how big it is and what is developing. It's just so amazing to read. In the beginning they compare the size of the baby to a common food...like a kidney bean or a prune. It does help you to visualize the size, but made it difficult to eat kidney beans one week. This week the baby is the size of a fig....so when we text or e-mail about the baby, we call him/her "the fig".

We had a bit of a scare last Monday when some guy driving way too fast during the morning rush hour tried to cross all of the lanes of traffic after getting on the expressway and slammed into the back of Tresa's car. She got an ambulance ride, an exam and an ultra sound and thank goodness everything was okay. We were so worried. She was on bed rest for a couple of days as a precaution.

Tresa being pregnant has brought back so many wonderful memories for me. I loved being pregnant...all three times. It was the most magical of times. What a wonderful year this is going to be.....we are so blessed.

Tresa asked us what we would like to be called. I have never really thought about that. If you are a grandma....what do your grandchildren call you?

What wonderful news! Congratulations to everyone! "You're going to be a grandma!" has to be one of the sweetest sentences a mom can ever hear! As for names, I haven't thought about what I want to be called when the time comes. I just know I want it to be a name that evokes happiness and fun. We called my grandma Mimi and she was one of the funniest, full-of-life people I ever knew. So maybe Mimi...hmmmmm. Can't wait to hear what your name will be, Granny!

oh, and my grandkids call me grandma and my husband Bops. my son in law insisted on the grandma because that is what he called his beloved grandma and i didn't care. my mother insisted on being called Grandy and my husband's grandmother was Mimi and my kids didn't like either name so we just went with the flow. Bops just happened and it cracks us all up. my own beloved grandmother was Muna (said munna) which supposedly i named her trying to repeat mother, which is what my mother called her ;-)

CONGRATULATIONS! I'm doing a happy dance for you right now. There's just nothing like being a grandparent. I called my maternal grandparents Grandma and Poppa. My paternal grandfather was Pap or Pappy. Had my dad's mother been alive I would have probably called her Ma'am, just like her kids and my older cousins did. My husband and I are Granny and Papa (Paw Paw). Whatever that sweet baby calls you, it will be music to your ears.

You will just love being a Grandmother...such a blessing and so much fun. I decided to be called Mom Mom because that's what I called my Grandmothers. But if the darlin' child wants to call me something else, that's fine too.

How wonderful for all of you.

Wow!!! Congratulations!! What a good-looking couple, too!

My daughter calls one of her grandmas "Grandma" and the other one (my mom) "Grammy"... she actually started calling her that herself. We didn't make it up.

I look forward to seeing this little bundle of joy on your blog down the road!

Well knock me down and call me Grandpa. This is just fantastic news! I remember the phone call I got from my oldest daughter giving me the news. I was in a pharmacy and my cell phone rang. That's when I found out I was officially old....er, I mean going to be a grandfather. Congratulations to both of you, and to them.

I say go for, "Nana"..and "Papa/Papi"

..it's easier for the little ones to say sooner.

My Kahuana goes by "Jon-Jon" and we when the house is filled with shorties, that's all you hear.

...Jon-Jon-Jon-Jon-Jon-Jon-Jon-Jon.

Oh Congrats!! You are going to love being a Grandma so much!!! I (after thinking long and hard) picked "Gramme". Reasons: the step mom had already picked Grandma and I didn't want to be the same, I ruled out others for various reasons...I decided on Gramme but for a little bit I was Grandmama but I like Gramme the best. Oh you are just going to have such a wonderful time. You think you love your kids ....oh you just wait!!!!

Aw, how sweet!!! My mom wanted to be "Mimi" with her first grandchild but McKenzie just started calling her "Mamaw" and it stuck. So you might just be whatever the baby decides!
