My house is tan with brown trim. I don't want a tan house with brown trim any more. It's so boring to me now. I DID want a tan house with brown trim back in 1981 when we put an addition on our house and aluminum sided the whole thing.....but not any more.
Sadly, it isn't a matter of buying some paint. Aluminum siding takes a little more work. You have to wash it by hand, prime it with a special mix of paint and paint thinner and then paint it with an expensive latex....and that is why my house will probably remain tan with brown trim!
Whenever I am out walking, I always look at the colors of the houses. I love little yellow houses with white trim. Those really catch my eye. I am still drawn to neutral color houses, but the color of the trim is what really makes it an attention grabber for me. I've seen some great combinations.
When I e-mailed Irv to ask him how long our house has been tan with brown trim....all he wanted to know was "Why"? I make him nervous when I ask questions like that.
How about you? What color is your castle? Do you ever wish it was a different color?

My house is shingled (on Cape Cod, we have a lot of shingled houses because the salt in the air ruins paint and painted houses have to be painted almost every year)with white trim (that needs to be painted just about every year!) so we are sort of gray and white ;-)
I am trying to decide what color to paint my door....
There is a strikingly pretty house I drive by every day. It has royal blue trim. Sounds odd, but it is the best looking house on the street!
Our house has always been forest green with fancy bricks on the front. My dad built it years and years ago and my husband and I have lived in it for 36 years. I'd love to do the color over, but somehow it has always been much easier to just paint over the old color. I'd love to have siding like you have!!!

My house is chocolate brown. I love it because it blends in with the trees and looks very natural. I like slate blue houses, too.
Our place is a slate grey. Like it. But we've only really lived here seven years so don't know how I'd feel in another seven years. I think your colors are lovely but they are also fresh to my eyes.
Just changing the trim color will make a difference and the door another color. I have vinyl siding on ours, so it cannot be changed unless I take it off and put another on. It is a soft grey, so very neutral, and I still like it. I have a red door, always have. I like my red door. And white trim.
You need a brightly colored DOOR! Our house is tan-ish--well, it's brick. The trim is white. The doors are a bright blue and it POPS! Seriously, if you're in the game to do something to make it stand out...
lol, yeah those sorts of questions tend to send husbands over the edge. When we moved two years ago, our daughter complained ENDLESSLY about our entire house being tan. I can't do anything about the outside either. Maybe if you added flowering shrubs. There are some pretty nice varieties offering color. You could also add a colorful bench with a potted flower? Trying to come in easier and cheaper for ya Kathy. Hope it helps.
Our house is brick, Acme Highland Grey brick to be exact. But don't think grey. It's a rather mottle-colored brick with bluish greys, browns and a reddish dirt color. The trim is tan. I love the color because it just goes with our country living. Someone mentioned a brightly colored door. Ours is kind of a pinkish-peachy color.
We just had my mama's house freshly painted in Ultra white with a dark espresso trim, mirror her kitchen.
All the neighbors came out to chat and watch and asked her how she knew to choose those colors.
It looks so fresh and so clean.
When we bought our house over 2 years ago, it had new tan siding and red shutters and doors. I'm fine with it, but my wife now wants to change the color scheme. I'm holding my breath.
Ours is red brick with tan trim on the eaves and gutters. Enough about my house...let's chat about yours. It is CUTE!
I agree, you need a bright door. You need little shutters on that cute little window and maybe a flower box too.
I agree with those who suggest a bright door. Once upon a time my family lived in a white house with green shutters. My mother painted the front door a brilliant yellow. It was wonderfully cheerful; everyone commented on it.
I wish i cud paint the house i live in, but its not mine.:(
Cant u get the aluminium off? Or isnt there another way of painting it? It wud be a shame if u cudnt do it.
My house is white. I'd like it to be anything other than what it is! I don't mean to sound ungrateful, because I do appreciate having a nice roof over our heads. But...if I were to dream, I'd want to remodel inside and out. My favorite style of home is a cottage or bungelow.

Kathy, just paint the trim!! That will make all the difference! Or just leave the brown trim and paint the door! Imagine how pretty a tan and brown house would be with a Robin's Egg blue door!!
(or castle is brick with bluish/gray- I really want a different color and we will have to paint pretty soon so I am thinking on it too)
Oh and I JUST read the other comments! So, I guess I agree with everyone else about painting the door!
Hi Kathy, my house is white at the top and brick at the bottom, Tony has just painted it so I cannot ask for a different colour, we just have to paint the door which will be cherry red. If I lived in suffolk (southeast England) I would have a pink house they have lots down there and it is really pretty.

Your comment about your email made me laugh that is something my love would say. smile... With me it isn't the color so much of the house as the trim. I think your house color is a good choice and a great canvas to add a splash of color with flowers and pots. xo
