To Watch Or Not To Watch....That Is The Question

Well, my television season is coming to a close. I love Amazing Race and that's done. I've watched a little Dancing With The Stars this year and that will be done next week. I love American Idol and that will be done next week. I don't get the channel that most of the Cubs games are on, so I can't watch that.....

Hmmmmmm......any good shows that you think I need to watch?

So You Think You Can Dance is starting and I saw that a few times last season. It was kind of fun but not something I really have to watch....although is anything?

Maybe I will see if I can go the entire summer without watching any TV. That might be fun. Could you do that? I think I probably could.

Making Progress

First, the back update....I saw the chiro today. We have decided that I will have three treatments this week and maybe next week if necessary. It seems to be a disc issue and no one can "fix" a disc. It has to fix itself. I don't do drugs, so seeing an MD that will only prescribed muscle relaxers is a waste of his and my time. The chiro will keep my spine in line, he will do a treatment to take some of the pressure off the disc and do e-stim which helps with the discomfort. Discs take anywhere from 1 to 3 months to heal....and mine will heal all by itself. :)

Yesterday, I accompanied Irv to IKEA to pick up two chairs for our "new" living room. They were very inexpensive little things, but cute and will look great. The sad thing was that I could only do a little walking, so we sat in the chairs to be sure we liked them, picked up some drapes we wanted, picked up the chairs, paid, loaded it all up and left. I didn't get to look at anything. :( What a bummer.

I love the little chairs because the covers can be removed and washed....just what you need when you have a Sparky, a Wrigley and a Maggie.

Now I am looking for a funky little round table to put in between the chairs and a fun lamp of some kind. I also want to make a footstool to go with them. Just a rectangular one with legs or casters and covered with some cute fabric.....another winter project. We aren't exactly sure how we are going to arrange the furniture, but once the TV stand is done, we will figure it out.

The little toy chest turned coffee table is almost done. We want to spray the top with a matte sealer to protect it a little bit and then the hinges can go back on and it's good to go. Here is what it looked like before.

Here is what it looks like now! It's so darn cute. I just love it!

What did you think of Amazing Race last night? I was bummed. I really liked the dad and son team. I really want Miss America to take a hike! Next week will be intense before the finale!

Well, I have a bunch of new pins, coasters and wine bags to get listed tonight if I can sit long enough. Have a great evening and I will chat with you tomorrow!

The Amazing Race

Do you watch Amazing Race? I love that show. If you have never watched it....it's two person teams that are flown all over the world in a competition to win a million dollars. The teams might be a married couple, a dating couple, a mom and son, and dad and daughter, a gay couple, a "challenged" couple....we have seen it all.

The race probably takes a couple of weeks, but we watch it over an entire season. The teams fly from one country to the next following clues and participating in competitive events all related to the culture of the country they are in. The last team to arrive at the final location for that show are usually eliminated from the race.

This is the host of The Amazing Race, Phil. He is one awesome dude!Watching what happens to the pairs as the stress builds is sometimes interesting as they learn things about one another that they never would have known if not for this game, but the part I like best is seeing little bits of a lot of different countries that I know I will never see in my lifetime. I take in all that I can as the teams race through crowded markets, or float down little dirty rivers in boats, or get stuck in traffic in a cab or bike down country roads. I turn my head when the game includes eating foods that I can't even look at without wanting to barf...much less watch someone eat it. Ewwwww!

My daughter-in-law checked into trying out for the show, but you have to be able to fly out at a moments notice if you are selected and being teachers that wouldn't work for her and Michael. I kind of wonder how so many people are able to do that! They must have nice bosses or else they are unemployed or self employed.

Each week now gets more and more intense as we get down to the finale. If you want to watch, the show is on Sunday evenings on CBS at 7:00 Central. It's the only show that can drag me from my workshop right now....and it drags me out for an hour every week!

I'm Throwing My T.V. in the Garbage

Not really...if I did that, my son would be very upset with me. We are t.v. sitting for him right now until he gets his house. So, I have this gigantic t.v. in my little living room right now. I will say that it is much easier on the old eyes, but.....

Over the course of this past year, I have found myself watching less and less t.v. It's almost to the point where I think I could be one of those people that doesn't have a t.v. at all...and I can't believe I am saying that!

Do you watch much t.v.? What is your favorite show?

I do flip on the weather channel occasionally to see what kind of storms...snow or tornado are headed our way. I will also confess that I am one of those silly people that love American Idol. I know, I know....it's a ridiculous show, but I love the laughs at the beginning of the season and I do get attached to some of the performers by the final weeks. I have always loved music and I enjoy the talent.

The other show I really like is the Amazing Race. I don't enjoy the bickering and the nastiness that always seems to rear it's ugly head, but I do love to see the countries they travel to. If I had the travel channel, I could enjoy that part of it without all of the silliness.

I talked before about my immense dislike of violent movies...well I feel the same way about t.v. shows. I just can't watch them. I don't find murder and torture entertaining. In fact, it really bothers me. I know it isn't real, but much of what you see on t.v. really happens on a daily basis, and that's what bothers me. It is kind of real.

Medical shows have taken over the airwaves too, and I really don't want to watch one sick person after another paraded across the screen. I know there are horrible diseases out there. I don't need to be reminded of that every night. I use to watch Grey's Anatomy, but every character has become dysfunctional in some way or another and I got bored with it all.

I was a fan of "24", but each season it gets more and more violent. I'll try watching it this season, but I have a feeling I might be done with that show too.

Yep, I am a real barrel of laughs aren't I? Perhaps you can recommend some good quality shows for me. I don't have digital cable though, so I am a bit limited as to what I can watch.

So, what do I do instead of watching t.v...I make things, I blog, I read, I do Sudoku puzzles, I try to do logic puzzles, I plan, I journal, I text with my kids and I e-mail friends and family. I do things that make me happy.

I don't begrudge anyone their hours in front of the t.v. My husband watches t.v. every evening. He is a huge fan of House and the Law and Order shows...oh, and Criminal Minds. If t.v. makes other people happy, then that's great for them. I guess it's all in what you call entertainment and what you choose to do with your time.

Now, when baseball season starts, you will find me in front of the t.v. any time the Cubs are playing....and believe me....that can be torture!
