I Finished It!!!!

I finished "The Power of Now" by Eckhart Tolle the other day. Wow! Quite an amazing book. Some of the things he talked about I was already practicing...like not living in the past. He just put things into such a different perspective that he really made me take a look at my life and my entire thought process.

I will say that the book was very difficult to read. Sometimes I wondered if he was speaking a foreign language. I mentioned before that some of his sentences were so long that by the time I got to the end of the sentence I had forgotten what he said at the beginning and had to back and read it all over again.

What I did take from the book is that I need to slow down. Stop looking back, but stop looking forward as well. Having memories of days gone by is nice and planning for the future is okay, but neither is acceptable when it means forgetting about today....because really, today is all we have...in fact, this moment is the only thing we can really control. Take care of this moment and the rest will take care of itself.

I've already started his book, "A New Earth". When I finish it, I am going to get "The Power of Now" on CD and listen to it in my car while I commute. There were a number of areas of the book that went right over my head. I'm thinking that hearing the words might bring a better understanding.

If you are caught up in the rat race and are continually wondering if there is more to life than the constant worry, regrets, fear and stress...I highly recommend "The Power of Now."

I'll let you know how the new book goes. Have a good one!

You are so right about looking forward. I think I have missed out on a lot because I'm either worrying about the future or planning it. I need to slow down. Great post!

Maybe because I'm older I tend to worry more about the here and now than the future. When I was younger I use to clean my house like I was driven, people would tell me you could never tell I had kids my house was so orderly all the time. Then a Friend of mine told me that I was being stupid, clean is fine but I was killing myself. And that 10 minutes after I was dead no one would even notice if the house was perfect or not. She was right...Life is to short to dwell on the what if's just worry about what you can do now and forget the rest..the future will be what it will be...
Very good post.

I have A New Earth and plan to start it this week as well. Powerful message though, about living in the moment. I find it so interesting how we have to keep reminding ourselves.

A New Earth is next on my reading list (just got it from the library).

I had to laugh about your comment on Tolle's sentences. He is German, after all and German sentences are l...o...n...g and the verb is the last word so they are all difficult to read!

"The woman in the blue, silk gown with her hat tilted jauntily on her head, with whole-hearted affection, did the man in the severe, grey wool suit and fedora, greet."

i try very hard to live in the present while learning the lessons of my past. i have lost so many people in my life so young and the ones who knew they were going were adamant that we all understand how short life is. the others left suddenly and their leaving over the years has taught me that tomorrow is not a given and that each moment we are here is precious so make the most of it!
