The Reunion

So Irv and decided not to attend our 40th high school reunion which takes place this weekend. In all honesty, if I am going to spend $200 on anything, it's going to be for paint and some new stuff for my house.

Irv and I had a very small social circle in high school, and I've only kept in touch with a few people over the years...and those people I would really like to see. We knew a lot of people and got along fine with everyone, we just didn't have a lot of really close friends.

I'm just not really not sure how I feel about reunions. I am not that person anymore, and I don't know that I want to share the person I am now with a bunch of people I don't know. Does that make sense? I love who I am and where my life has taken me. I have never been happier...but do those people really care? Probably not. I am just concerned that the whole thing is a lot of fake smiles and hellos and that just isn't me.

Some of the people we went to school with live 5 miles from us. If we all wanted to be friends....wouldn't we be?

I am not trying to be negative, in fact I've never felt so awesome in my life. I'm just trying to be honest. Is it wrong that I don't care about seeing people that I haven't seen in 40 years or people that I went to school with but have no idea who they are? UGH!

There is a get together Friday night at a local restaurant, and I think we are going to go to that so I can see the few girls that I would really like to see. I will let you know how it goes. :)

Have you gone to any of your high school reunions? How was it?

I'm complete with you, Kathy. I'll have my 30th next year and there is no interest in going. Enjoy that $200 somewhere else!

I've never been to a single high school reunion (went to school in NY state and live in PA). I did not keep in touch with anyone either. Lives become different.
Early this year I did track down one of my good friends from high school via facebook and we've been connected ever since, and even gotten together twice, which is great.
Spend that $200 wisely!

Went to my 10-year reunion and it was awful. Have never been back. I agree with you 1000%.

I am so in agreement with you. We went to my 10 yr reunion. My husband had way more fun than I did. Then we went to his 10 yr reunion and I had way more fun than he did. Haven't been to one since. To top it off the people I'd most like to see are the ones on the "do you know where they are list." Have fun with that $200.

I have only had one reunion so far...and I did not go.

I call it "shakin' and fakin'" when you go around with a fake smile shaking everyone's hands.

There is really not one person from high school I would care to see again. I made my real friends in college.

They have reunions in England too and I have never been tempted. I think it could be quite sad, all those memories turned into Bald Heads, Large Backsides, Grey Hair it makes me shudder I would rather keep the memories I have of when I and they were young. Enjoy you $200 elsewhere it will be far more rewarding.

oh well, guess i'm the odd woman out on this one. i had a fabulous class and we have reunions every 5 years and everyone who can comes. we don't spend anything close to $200 though. they are quite simple and just fun get togethers. my class had about 300 in it and we get about 300 people show up--including spouses or whatevers. i was not some popular kid, either. over the years i've made some great friends with people i hardly knew back then.

everyone has their own comfort level on this one, though.

I'd rather jump out the window than go to any of my high school reunions. High school and the teenage years were tough. I've spent too much on therapy to blow it on a reunion :-)

First I wanted to thank you for stopping at my photo blog.
About reunions - I haven't gone to mine either. I have a group of friends I've kept in contact with, and there are others that I see occasionally. The cost of reunions is always high and I could spend it other ways better!
