ME First

Something I needed to do and I am now working on is putting "ME" first. You would think that caring for ourselves would be an automatic...but it never has been for me. How about you?

By putting me first, I mean making the time for exercise, taking the time to make healthy meals and finding time in my busy day to relax and do some things that I enjoy doing.

Since starting my etsy business, FourDogDay, my priorities have been screwed up...to say the least. Etsy became the most important thing in my life. It took me a while to figure out that even though etsy allowed me to use my creativity and own my own business..it had taken over my life. It got to where FourDogDay ran me, rather than the other way around and that is never a positive thing.

It took me a long time to realize that I just never felt in "balance" because I rarely carved out a niche of time for me. Now that I am learning to do that, everything else seems to be falling into place and life in general is more calm and peaceful and much more enjoyable.

What nice thing have you done for yourself today?

I agree completely about priorities. I'm taking small steps like halving the sugar in my sweet tea (my addiction) and and walking around campus at lunch. I'm trying to leave work at 5:30 instead of staying til 6 or 7. Must get my life back and feel better. And one nice thing I do for me is read your blog!

Amen sister!!! I couldn't agree more. You can't get caught in a whirlwind. When you feel that way, it's time to reassess.
Have a great Saturday.

I think we all get caught up in the maelstrom of life sometimes. This semester, I'm trying to carve out more time for me instead of the semester running me. I've made more time for my students, but also needed to make that much needed time for me.

hmmm...I have been a family first Muse...but I agree if i cannot say ME, and not feel guilty, there will be nothing to give family worth having.

Now, go do for you :)

I think it's part of the female make-up to put ourselves last. I never used to think I required time for myself but as I get older I really feel the need for it.

So true!!! I think it's so easy to get caught up with everything else going on that we forget to take time for ourselves. I plan on creating more of a routine for myself this year.

You've reached the right conclusion; better late than never.

As we advance in age we realize that whar brings about illness are the everyday stress, tension, pressures. We must find a way to minimize these bad things, listen to our body & soul needs and act accordingly.

My way of relaxation and balancing things is taking a walk, blogging, and other activities that have Me at the center.

Being a smidge selfish, I've had no trouble doing for myself. In more recent years, tho I have been trying to do more for others. But I get where you're coming from. It's great to devote time for others, but we won't be our best if we don't take time for ourselves, too.

Good luck keeping up with caring for yourself!

I am doing something similar this year - making sure I pamper myself a bit, which I never do. Today I stayed in bed all morning finishing a great book. What luxury!! Here's to making time for ourselves!! :) Silke
