Kickin' The Habit

I've decided to kick the habit. I have to. I am so tired of feeling dependent upon any substance. I hate having to grab for it first thing in the morning...before I go out....before I go to bed. I hate panicking if I don't have any. I hate spending the money. I hate that I am so addicted that it doesn't even work for me any more. This has been going on for years and years and it has to stop.

My name is Kathy and I am am a lip balmaholic!

I can't even tell you how awful my addiction is. I have three of them in my purse right now and three more in the drawer at home. I keep them in my pockets, on my bedside table, in my car, at work...wherever I am....they are!

I can't tell you how many tubes have gone through the dryer....along with my clothes. Not a pretty sight.

I know I am not alone. Two of my children are addicted too....it must be some mutant gene that runs in our family or something like that.

It use to be Chapstick, then it was some Eco Lips, then it was Burt's Bees and now it's back to Chapstick. Why? Because none of them work anymore!!

I am 58 freakin' years old and this week I look like one of those little kids that constantly lick their lips until they are so red around their whole mouth that they look like little clowns! That is me this week. I'm not kidding you!

I will never be able to quit cold turkey. I would hyperventilate and keel over if my lips felt dry and I didn't have a lip balm, so I am trying to wean myself off gradually.

I did pretty good yesterday, but the lip balm still won. I can't even tell you how many times I applied it to my red, dry chapped lips. I will try to do better today. I'm going to start counting how many times I "use" in one day. Then I can challenge myself to do better the next day.

My lips are so dry right now that I want nothing more than to smear them with that ooey gooey waxy petroleum. Please tell me that one of you....just one of you out there understands.

:)

i feel for you. i have never been a chapstick, lip balm person but have many friends and relatives that are and i've had my share of other addictions. it is actually an addiction--you can look it up on google and maybe they'll have some helpful suggestions...good luck!

Oh, you have such an entertaining way of writing - even about your lip balm addiction! I never thought of it as such. I have a lip balm in the bathroom, by my bed, in my purse and in the kitchen. My lips get dry - I like them not to be. I don't think there's anything wrong with wanting your lips to be soft...

Of course, if you get anxiety attacks if you don't have it, it might be a slight problem! If you find out how to keep your lips from drying out without lip balm, please share...

Good luck today!! Love, Silke

How brave of you to come out! I've never used lip balm but I do keep lipstick in my desk and in my purse. Not a crazy bright color, just a neutral one that I apply periodically throughout the day. Clinique makes wonderfully moist lipstick that keeps my lips feeling good throughout the day. So maybe it's not such a bad thing. Instead of quitting, maybe "cutting back" will work!

I'm convinced they put something in Chapstick to MAKE your lips drier so you'll need more and more...
Good luck with kicking the habit!

I had to wean myself slowly off lip balm but putting it on my wife while she was asleep and then kissing her. But then that became addictive too.

I have the same addiction. Except it's to Alba's peach lip balm. Yum.

I only use lip balm once in awhile but I have a good friend that must be addicted to it. I've always thought it was because she was a smoker and that dried her lips out but maybe it is an addiction to the lipbalm itself.

It was Carmex and Blistex for me for the longest time. Then my aunt told me that Carmex and Blistex both held ingredients that actually cause the lips to dry out and chap. So I switched to not using anything but heavy duty lotion on them. Now that I'm teaching in a dry-air environment, I use them if I'm talking alot. But at home, it's rare unless the air is extremely dry.

Be strong. It will be like anything else you try to un-do. :D

We must be related. I also have to have lotion. I order 12 sticks of Dew Kiss by Avon at a time and my Avon lady can't believe that I ran out already! Really, you should try just the pink Dew Kiss. It is MUCH better than the Chapstick brand.

I keep a tube in each vehicle, one on my desk, one in my medicine cabinet, & one in my purse. I don't apply it that much but if I find myself without one suddenly my lips feel so overwhelmingly dry and it's all I can focus on, just knowing one is there is sometimes enough but there must be one available at all times.

Okay Kathy, since you came out of the closet on this, I'll confess too. I'm addicted to Blistex. I will buy handfuls of them at the store and keep them stocked at home. I keep one or two in my car, on at my desk, one in my pocket, several in the bedroom, one in the bathroom, several at work, and anywhere else I think I might be when I need it.

Thank goodness. And here I thought that I was the only weirdo hooked in it.

Oh golly I am a hand lotionaholic too.

There is a conspiracy...a few years down the road...we will find there is an addictive substance...

DOOMED...lol
